16. Go Back To Cricklade ...

... with a camera, when it's not Sunday.

We live a short drive from Cricklade, and last year we went there for a walk, just to see what was there. We found a craft shop ...

... and an amazing array of planters, pots, window boxes, and other containers of all shapes and sizes, all packed with flowering plants.

Unfortunately the craft shop was closed, as it was Sunday afternoon, and I had forgotten to take a camera. So this year we went back, on a different day, visited the craft shop (which sadly was a bit disappointing as it is very small and half of it is devoted to cards and gifts rather than to crafts), and took some photos of some of the planting.

There are flowers everywhere - decorating lamp posts, drainpipes, church railings, shops, houses, and even the police station. They are not necessarily flowers I'd want to grow in my garden, but they make Cricklade a very bright and colourful town and really cheer up the streets.

Cricklade, apparently, is the RHS's Britain in Bloom champion of champions, and the residents obviously take this very seriously.

It also has a nature reserve, so we'll try to go back there in the spring to see the fritillaries.
